Crafting a copper backsplash may seem daunting, but by following a few simple steps you can make this task a whole lot easier. Unlike times past, copper sheets these days are available in a wide variety of patterns and shades of color that can enhance the look of a room through vibrant/decorative or smooth/subtle backsplashes.
Directions to properly installing a copper backsplash:

Measure the area that you intend to cover with your backsplash. Set the copper sheet onto a smooth surface with the pattern side face-down; now map out the cutting lines, including for any outlets or wall switches. Take a pair of hand shears and cut the sheet as marked. For the wall outlets and switches, use a dremel or rotozip to make a precise cut. Wipe the surface of the copper with a moist cloth to prepare for the lacquer spray. Spray the lacquer neatly across the entire surface of the copper sheet. Wait four hours for it to dray, and then add a second layer of lacquer. Two or three layers will provide the copper with enough protection to last for many years. Gently use 200-300 grit sandpaper on the back of the sheet to prepare it for the construction adhesive. Apply this construction adhesive in a zigzag pattern across the entire surface of the copper. Additionally, you can use a plastic squeegee to smooth out the construction adhesive. Have someone assist you in taking the copper sheet and carefully setting it into place. Apply pressure evenly throughout to ensure a clean fit. For some kitchens, a copper seam molding or trim piece is also necessary to create the proper look for a backsplash.
